Do we Share a Common Dream for our Earth?

For the continued survival of everything on Earth, we need to ensure the balance of the delicate web of life in our lifetime, and beyond to our children’s, and children’s children, for generations to come. Seven generations into the future, if we are to look at the results of how our current actions have far-reaching consequences.

The Guardians, or Indigenous Keepers of the Earth have always sought to share their wisdom, and to maintain their traditional law, for the preservation of life on our planet. We have done our best as a collective to ignore what is unseen, in favour of progress, as we focus our attention on what our society has created. Yet the signs are there and we are now beginning to notice – just as we are called to pay attention to our own bodies, we are asked to observe the signals that are coming from our Earth.

It is up to us to be aware of ourselves, and we are now aware of the responsibility that lies beyond the sphere of our own individual lives; the impact that each one of us has, as we are all part of something greater. Animal, vegetable, or mineral, it’s no different, the laws that govern all of life are the same. If we feed toxins into any environment eventually it becomes contaminated – accumulating over time, filtering through, seeping into every crack. If we see that any part of our environment is altered or unable to support the life that once thrived, how do we expect it to continue to support our life? We might make up one tiny link in the chain, but we are nevertheless responsible.

If we learn to love ourselves, it stands that we learn to love our Earth. For appreciation of our own bodies and attention to our own physical needs – the maintenance of our own healthy systems – leads to a greater understanding of our role, of the macrocosm and the microcosm, the relationship between our internal condition and our external world. We have heard ‘become the change you wish to see’, or ‘be the peace you wish to see in the world.’ We are the cure – the tonic, the elixir that brings vitality and promises immortality.

Within each of us is the potential to change each and every external rupture in the world. The ability to diffuse, dissolve and disintegrate every ‘out of control’ system, or structure, or storm that has brewed as a result of a collective imbalance – as the consequences of actions that have already had far-reaching effects and are now being played out on the World Stage: in weather patterns and war-torn states; disagreements and disputes; disharmony; all gathered together as a form of energy. To protect the legacy for future generations that extend far beyond the known bounds of our own lifetime, yet surely fit within the lifetime of our Earth.

The voices that come from the grave can teach us, the wisdom of the Ancestors lives within each one of us. Every animal was a representation of an aspect of the natural world and the qualities associated with such Totems, gained through close observation. Each sacred possession representing aspects of daily life and rituals considered important, showing a reverence for life. Every day honoured, as we rejoice in the bounty of life.
