Tauret (Taweret, Egyptian Goddess)

31/7/2007

The hippopotamus connects to the Great Earth Mother. She wades in the mud and swims in the deep waters – emerging into the air. Rising only to breathe, her heavy body bound to the Earth – the womb of the Earth, and the voice of the Earth – carrying with her the birthing pains of all creation; the memory from deep within the heart of the eternal loving mother, a deep, dark energy that permeates all things.

Ties or heart-strings that bind us to the Divine Mother; our maternal instincts and our survival instincts. Knowledge that comes from within – a flow of ancient wisdom from the bowels of the Earth, from beyond time, the energy of magnetism: a pull drawing us to the centre.

Thus heavy, and often seen as our ‘lower nature’, the reptilian parts reminding us we must master our desires; we may remain grounded and connected, but we must also rise up to ‘take air’ and pull ourselves up from the depths – the waters of our emotions – by using our thoughts to guide us towards the light – the sun – for this is ever the goal. To accept our darkness, to go within – to integrate these hidden aspects of ourselves and ultimately, to embrace the light.

So we are reminded to face our shadow and to strive for the light – to rest, to follow the seasons of our body, and to act from our inner knowing.
