The Stream of Consciousness

30/04/2009

What does it mean to be in the flow of creation? To receive inspiration and insights easily, the flash of genius, or just inspired ideas. Artists tap in when they open themselves up to the spurt of creativity that comes when they are tuned in, receptive, intent on following their heart and just going with what comes. It is not always a conscious process – sometimes it might seem like an unseen force is at work that has taken over and guided our hand towards a result. For this process to take place there must be a ‘space’ allowed. A closed vision or fixed idea of an outcome is hardly conducive to a result that takes us beyond what we’ve ever done before.

A vision grows, it expands; it goes through a cycle of evolution from its beginning point to its end. Unclear at first, the desire to begin as we commence and then taking shape, finding form, emerging as something we start to recognise, or not, as layers are built up on a canvas or a book finds its filling or a composition its structure and rhythm. Whatever we create there is an underlying rhythm that permeates. A driving force – unseen yet powerful – facilitating, overseeing, and advising.

If we are aware of it we stand a better chance of harnessing its full powers. Awkwardly at first we might dabble, jotting down the inspired thoughts or visions that arrived, unsure they are leading us. Yet if we watch, we can see a picture is forming. Any line of enquiry or exploration never fails to produce results. Our desire to embark on a journey is met with all the tools we need to complete it. We all have different objectives and interests – for variety is the spice of life – and as we pursue them, remaining open to discovery, they reward us with understanding.

We evolve by way of living through our experiences and interacting with the many aspects that comprise them. Never static, always ‘fluid’ if we allow ourselves to flow with the tides of change. Remaining flexible, experimenting, trying new things, delving into new areas we’ve never thought to enquire about, until now that is, always being open to more. Prolific it might seem, if we’re actively following a dream. The more we do, the more it seems there is to pursue.

Yet this process is not goal-orientated, and it doesn’t feel like a task. It is a process of allowing – not getting caught up in our mind. There is nothing of a ‘formula’ involved when we get into the flow – for a flow is by nature a current. A stream of energy – carrying us, supporting us, running through our veins, utilising our brain yet remaining free of obstacles that inhibit or halt this flow.

It is as if we plug into Broadband – able to freely access the ever-increasing bandwidth and download information easily. We have to begin – to hold some kind of intent to explore – and the rest is a game of chance, a Google search and we’re in for a surprise, who knows where it will lead us? All that is required is that we open our minds – we can’t dismiss avenues without at least taking them – no book can be judged by its cover alone.

Down the rabbit hole we tumble, through the portal into cyber space, along the corridors of virtual reality – we expand our own vision to encompass the collective of visions where so many meet in one place – overlapping, merging, connecting, linking arms and taking us to other levels. A multidimensional reality beyond our 3D state, allowing us to access many places that we never thought possible a generation ago. Shrinking the world down to our desktop or our palm – it is our fingers that do the looking.

Everything we’d like to know available to us in an instant. A great pool of collected knowledge with insights provided – from academic to social butterfly, everyone has their view, their take, their slant, their learned opinion or just their own way of expressing themselves. Each is unique, none better than the other, just part of the myriad expressions that create the whole. Threads of our existence, weaving themselves together, like strands of DNA spiralling, forming a cohesive structure.

It is only when we silence our mind that we can access our own storehouse of information – an incredible resource, larger than all the libraries that have ever existed, vaster than we are capable of comprehending, volume upon volume of stored information in the form of energy. Imprints: not visible, just as we are unable to view the processes once we access the Internet, we do not possess the faculties to physically ‘see’ these etheric recordings. They exist, yet on a plane beyond the vibrational level of our dimension.

As with any library, we need to know how to utilise it and to act with a reverence or respect for the wisdom that is contained in the tomes. We also have to know what we’re looking for. Access to various sections comes through intent. Everything that has ever been is housed in this great collection; all we need do is make our selection.

We can also compare this place with being in ‘an intuitive state’. Being in a different level of consciousness than our usual operating ‘waking state’ – tuned in to our instincts, our senses finely honed so we are utilising a higher level. Some may use the term ‘psychic senses’ – clairvoyance, clairsentience and clairaudience – a heightened awareness that goes far beyond our normal range of reception and perception. The more we develop our awareness – whether it is a ‘musicians ear’, or an ‘artists eye’, or an indigenous person’s connection to Nature – the greater the level of access we have to the energy that accompanies these exalted states.

Walking around with everyday concerns sees us firmly anchored to the ground – grounded – limited by our focus or distracted, our mind wandering. We need to be grounded in everyday reality in order to function – acting and reacting, remaining alert, using our mental faculties and deductive powers, thinking about our basic needs – we are used to the active state that is driven by our will. We forge on, we compete; we line up our tasks and allocate time and energy towards them.

The ‘masculine’ aspect of our being takes charge, the ‘positive polarity’; the tangible known world that provides our man-made framework comes to the fore. The other aspect is often hidden. The ‘feminine’ sensitive intuitive state of inner-knowing, true emotions and gut feelings. The passive, or ‘negative polarity’. The flip-side of the coin, yet the two must work harmoniously if we are to be fully realised as a whole – achieving balance, using all of our faculties to their fullest extent at all times.

Intuition is not as easily defined. Hunches don’t carry as much weight as a punch – the physical, in our physical world, is much easier to grasp than anything we term ‘non-physical’ because it lies beyond the reach of the bass level – or unrefined level – of our senses.

Animals naturally attune to higher frequencies than we are capable of sensing – if we can accept this as an example, we can understand how we can develop ours to extend our range. Why would we dream of it if we don’t know it’s possible – or are unaware of the doors that are opened to us, if we walk over the threshold?

It has always been the path of mystics and sages – crossing the lines that lead to other-dimensional realities, commanding the Laws of Nature at will in order to transcend them, demonstrating feats that we consider ‘miracles’ in order to show what is indeed within the realms of ‘actuality’. Levitating, manifesting objects, astral travel – are there any boundaries to the potential we have?

It is only because we have leant to expect things to happen in a certain way, or have been conditioned, that they do. The key to this unlimited potential therefore lies in acknowledgement of its existence. Not so we can all run around parting seas and  performing acts of ‘magic’, but in order to harness our innate potential more fully – to be all we can be – not jumping through hoops or pushing our way ahead of the competition but recognising the abilities that we have, our ‘in-built guidance system’, and working with it, tuning into greater frequencies, opening our minds to many new possibilities – working with the laws of nature to bring out our true nature.

Discarding the layers of illusion that we have formed as we uncover our talents one by one – as if reborn. The path of initiation as we encounter challenges and overcome them by means of our own knowledge and ingenuity – once we are aware of how this works. Accessible to all of us – the place that restores us.

Seek and ye shall find; search for answers and you shall know the truth of your mind,
Tapping in to the Universe is the birthright of all mankind –
The time has come to show the way that all may enter, without delay,
Formalities now set aside, access offered to humankind.

Brother, sister, side by side, balanced and equal – there’s no need to hide,
Love in action lights the way – heartfelt feelings when pursued,
Open the gates that each may use,
Action comes in following desires – will used gently to support not ‘drive’,
Listening to the tune of our own being, we move beyond just merely ‘seeing’.

‘Knowing’ our feelings and understanding where they come from, getting to the bottom of our motivations and what is really guiding us to act, dissolving any illusion that life is meant to be hard and full of suffering, as we claim back its wonderful offering.

Letting go of compromise, and saying goodbye to anything in our lives we could label as ‘soul destroying’, we have the opportunity to reassess, and to take the step forward to what we know best. Allowing everything we’ve concealed and hidden away to emerge once more – why plan for rainy days?

To know ourselves is to know the truth,
And to ‘aim for our best’ is not a motto from our youth,
To ease the pressure we place on ourselves in order to conform,
To lighten up on compromise if it makes us forlorn,
Forgetting success as an outward measure,
Is there anything we’re denying ourselves –
What is it we treasure?

Being swept along and trying to keep up – is it enough, or is it too much? If we’d like to act more consciously – to not be a victim, to take back the power in our lives – then we need only start by looking at ourselves. We know that we can’t control every situation and condition in the world – we can only control the way we choose to view it, or judge it, or react – therefore, through conscious observation of our behaviour, we can reach a point where we find our own power.

We soon realise that it is futile to be pulled in different directions as we react to external influences on our lives, and as we take inventory, we learn not to take sides. To remain impartial and aware with a ‘peripheral vision’ – not ignorant or incapable of acting, but poised in a state of wellbeing: the stream of consciousness that supports us when we accept that we are responsible, no one else is to blame – it’s entirely up to us how we choose to play this game.

The world is our oyster – and we can see it as most precious, or view it with distaste, we are the ones who have the power to create. As soon as we realise this and garner our own strength, from a centred state we rise above – we find there’s more, we enter a higher vibration because we’ve invited it in, and our talents come to the fore. We can use any term we like: plugged in; switched on; tuned in to this state, we experience the flow of Oneness, where love does not abate. ‘An unconditional stream of higher awareness that guides our every move and seeks only to hold us in a state of abundance and wellbeing – directing our actions in order to gain the greatest levels of alignment to wellbeing.’

Just as our intelligent system automatically helps us heal, once we become aware of our potential, and the part we play in realising it, we are able to assist as eager participants instead of offering resistance. And the more we experience, the more we get to see, first hand, for it is only when we are open and willing that the Universe may take command – exceeding our expectations, furthering our interests and surprising us by coming up with even better answers than we could begin to look for – slowly but surely, we are guided forward.

Begin by believing and the rest follows suit, soon we’ll be laughing, for there is no such thing as absolute.
