MessagesMaat (Ma'at) in Ancient Egypt
The Weighing of the Heart by the Forty-two Assessors of the Dead
In the Egyptian Book of the Dead, a confession is made declaring truth, “I have brought Maat into my mind and soul.” Each in turn will challenge him and the soul must answer, “By the feather of truth, thee I have conquered.” When he can no longer hear the sonorous voices of the Gods, his own voice shall ring forth saying, “Thee I have conquered for on Earth there is no sinful one, no sorrowful one, no suffering one through any act of mine.” The Feather of Maat
A feather cannot float if it is weighed down by burdens, it is free – free of judgment, therefore, it is truth. Flight is freedom – the power to soar to dizzying heights. Maat as Universal Order and HarmonyMa’at is order, justice, right, goodness, truth and harmony. It is the harmony of the Universe, the perfect order of creation as seen in the Earth and Sky and the divine rule of the God-King. The definition of the ultimate reality, the source of Cosmic Order and the force which made and preserved stability – that there was an Eternal Mind behind creation which manifested itself constantly through the Son of Ra. Truth, which eternally is – the established order of life. Each man must co-operate and fit into that order so that truth or ‘good’ may be preserved. (Genesis: ‘God saw all he had made and behold it was good’. Parallels the Chinese Tao: ‘The order and consistency of the Universe, the Perfect way, pure harmony and embracing all creation. When men follow the Tao peace and righteousness prevails’). The Role of The Pharaoh in Upholding Maat“His people flourished under the light like corn-fields in the sun, for the temples were true temples, the justice of the land was as the scales of Tahuti, and the granaries were filled ten cubits high, and none walked in fear of famine, either of truth or of bread.” It was in the ‘person of the king’ that the two parts of Egypt which had always been separated topographically, were united. The ‘Lord of Two Lands’ wore a double crown. This implied that Horus and Seth, the Gods of Upper and Lower Egypt were united. The Pharaoh was a divinity as the ‘Son of Ra’, he was also the incarnation of Horus when alive and Osiris when dead. As early as 4000 BCE, the Pharaoh had been worshipped as a God by all subjects, his official title was the ‘Good God’. Because of the belief that the Pharaoh was God and ruled in accordance with cosmic truth (Maat), the common man found his relationship to the absolute changeless order. This meant the Pharaoh was not merely and agent for God or a mediator between God and the people, but was God, eternally present on Earth, presiding over the destiny of the land. He interpreted Maat, was a personification of Maat, and the law was Maat. Maat was also assurance of the eternal. The Pharaoh as a Son of God, Uniting the Two Lands, Wearing the Double Crown of Upper and Lower Egypt
Upper Egypt/Upper Nile Ta Shemau, ‘The Land of Reeds’ Lower Egypt/Lower Nile Ta-Mehu, ‘The Land of Papyrus’ Union of the Two Lands through the Son, Horus Horus the Falcon Duality returns to One-nessThe union of the ‘masculine and feminine’ brings balance, or Maat, between ego and intuition (Alchemy). The blending of the personality or external self with the Higher Self or soul (soul personality) is Maat, or ‘Living in Truth’. “The world before creation was the time before there were two things” – before duality, before the physical and spiritual bodies were created as ‘separate’. “Ra made the Moon the light up the Underworld.” The Pharaoh Akhenaten. The Embodiment of Maat, ‘Living in Truth’
Amenhotep IV, Akhenaten (‘Effective Spirit of Aten’) Akhenaten has been referred to as the ‘heretic Pharaoh’, yet also as ‘the first individual in history’, and ‘the first example of the scientific mind’, and a ‘prophetic genius’. His religion was not simply about worshipping the sun, it recognised the vast Creative Force of the sun, and the spiritual being of which the sun was a symbol. ‘He called this invisible force ‘The heat which is in Aten’, thus representing God as a dynamic vital reality, creator of the sun and all forms of life. The source of all energy, the primal power behind all things, a formless existence – an intelligence permeating the Universe. He intuited, ‘God is one whose dwelling is in the light of the setting suns’. This was mans first attempt to define God in intangible terms and idealistic qualities, transcendent and immanent, original causation and continuous presence, accessible and within each of us.’ Maat. The Very Essence of Truth, or Christ Consciousness, they are one, 'All Is One'
A connection between an individual (God-spark) and the Divine that allows a free-flowing exchange of energy – from ‘Source to Source’ – bringing Universal Truth through the person speaking – who is connected, free from judgment or ‘clouding’ due to their own belief systems, straight to ‘Source or God energy', and therefore pure energy. All are capable of establishing this connection and igniting the God-spark within that fuels the flame of consciousness to merge more completely, more fully, with Source, or the Whole – with the Source of All Creation, All Knowing, the Almighty, All That Is, the Divine, the Cosmic, the Godhead, the Light Beyond All Light Spiralling Forth, the Sun, Ra, the Aten, the One God. When mankind achieves ‘critical mass’ – in terms of a shift in consciousness on a scale never before seen – the shift to the fifth dimension will begin, that is, ‘A direct connection to the creative power of the Universe fused as a permanent ‘line’ or ‘flow’ between our current state of being and higher vibrational levels that will lift humanity as a whole, beyond the natural boundaries of time and space (as in meditative states).’ Thus for the shift to be achieved and for ‘Maat’ – balance or equilibrium – to become the new reality for mankind, the balance needs to shift from the masculine to the feminine, from mind to intuition, from thinking to feeling – that both may work in harmony – thus balancing the scales of justice, of non-judgement, of truth – universal truth unclouded by human perception; direct truth – for the evolution of all humanity, universal love flowing to all in this new Age of Man. Follow your heart, and connect with your emotions for they are your inner knowing. Act lovingly and gently to bring about change, as we prepare for a new dawn. |
