The Eye in the Sky

As light streams forth from cloudy skies, we are often transfixed by the beauty and enormity of great shafts – seemingly emanating from one world, and piercing the ether to our known world. Penetrating the veils – opening a portal through which we may travel to other dimensions of existence. The fingers of ‘God’ reaching out in the form of a display of the majesty of Nature. A parting; a crack in the Universe – an eminence emerges.

All-Seeing, All-Knowing; shining down on many a person, and creature, and block of land, and town, or entire region – we cannot estimate how far it reaches, or how it is viewed from other vantage points. We have only our own experience or response, a moment in time, if we take the time to notice such phenomena.

Rainbows capture our attention, drawing our eyes upward to the skies. Causing us to wonder about their beginning and end, for we see them arch out of sight – or out of our own realms of standard definition – for we cannot measure their path, or breadth, or width. They are fleeting shows of light we can capture on film, or keep in our imagination – a reminder of the magic that Nature creates to fill our lives. For wouldn’t life be dull without the marvels that cause us to question the significance of our minute existence, when we are faced with the enormity of the forces at work around us in grand proportions on the world stage.

A universal theatre – floodlights beaming in from outer space, and the ceiling; impossible to find. Side wings that we can’t touch, for they do not exist. The audience; only those who were free or found out what was going on, or felt compelled to be there – for one performance only – or many varied performances if their passions were aroused.

How might we draw the analogy for the ‘Eye of God’ or some All-powerful benevolent ‘being’ looking down upon us? Regarding the audience with impartiality – not playing to them or catering for their needs, but only seeking to express themselves as completely as they can from the heart, with soul, with the very essence of their being, radiating.

The Sun is but a fragment of the light that emanates upon us – the filament of the stars that touch our lives, merely a faint glow in the wake of all that lies beyond and penetrates both light and dark. The Moon’s rays gentle in comparison to the unseen energies that permeate our lives. The life force, our breath, everything that infuses our being with vital energy – but a part of something greater.

Unknowable, unseeable, indefinable, questionable, incomprehensible and absolutely not able to be narrowed down to any fixed definition that will suffice to satisfy us – however adept the writer and however revered the source. We can believe what we want to believe of course – we can follow a ‘set course’ or we can create our own version based on our own experience, or lack of experience, because we are all here to make sense of everything that enters our experience for ourselves. It is only ever a matter of how we choose to look at it.

Approach life with our eyes wide open with delight, and it will never fail to amaze us in response. Close ourselves off to opportunities and we will miss out – close our doors and we shut possibilities out. Who’s to say what’s right or wrong – how do they know, after all, it’s our song. Live our lives fully by singing our own tune, not mimicking others, and we’ll venture beyond the Moon.

The light from ‘Heaven’ shining down –
The starry skies, a spangled gown,
Glistening wonders do await,
Much lies beyond the garden gate.

Vaster realms to be discovered,
The knowledge we hold – ready to be opened,
Follow our minds and analyse,
And we miss the feelings that are being denied.

If our heart’s not ‘in’ the way we’ve chosen,
The only way is to find it – the door is open.
