As Above, So Below

Above us stretch the starry Heavens – below the Earth, as we stand even. One filled with wonders we can’t explain, and the other, the same? We have more answers for the things ‘close at hand’, than we can fathom for more ‘distant lands’.

We’re not even sure if we’re alone, or just one Earth of many, for we exist in a zone. We have created boundaries, and contained our state – our lives are a microcosm, the rest down to fate. The stars govern chance and watch over our birth, we like to read horoscopes and keep widening our search.

“Who has the answers, who holds the key? If I study and learn, it will be me.” Based on the theories of what has gone before, we build our history, and we evolve as we explore. Yet what if we’re missing something crucial in the mix? If we take on board our history, and treat it like the gospel, it creates beliefs and fixed ideas, and serves to keep us hostile.

Much energy is spent in defence of what already exists; surely we could redirect our sights to alter this? Answers come through questioning, through openness – through receptivity. When we find ourselves in a receptive state, we enter the portal – we walk through the gate. Holding tightly to what we know, only serves to stem the flow. Wonders surround us, they can’t be denied, they fill each day, each evening sky. The Mysteries await our attention, patiently, with each passing season.

Lift your eyes and you’ll see them too – look up from your tomes – what is your heart telling you? Fear not the ridicule of peers, nor ignorant folk, find your own truth – far from a joke. Follow convention, and what happens to invention?

We are all here to raise the bar, to keep on discerning, to set our sights far. Yet equally, as we look around us, the find the beauty, to savour what astounds us. Being mindful of the place we call our home, preserving its wonders, writing our tome. Yet awareness that all is interlinked is the only way we can find respect.

For the law of things is to go both ways – what we give out, returns again. The reflection teaches us, lest we forget. Heaven above and Earth below; Heaven on Earth, and who knows how far we’ll go?
